Chiropractic Improved My Quality Of Life

Admittedly, it was not until my early adulthood that I learned of Chiropractic. I am so glad I was introduced as it has significantly helped improve my quality/function of life and more importantly enabled me to become less dependent on drugs/medication to lower/manage my high blood pressure.

Now, on a daily basis I am able to help my patients become healthier, stronger, more vital and mobile through Chiropractic.”

I always had a desire to become a medical professional because I enjoyed helping people. Throughout my educational studies science and its application were interesting. Later, physical medicine would prove to be my path. However, it was not that simple. My personal experience with Chiropractic began after an auto accident. This experience changed my life and outlook toward alternative healthcare.

Throughout my latter teenage years, I struggled with uncontrollable high blood pressure with no known origin. I was literally a “Walking time bomb” for a stroke but did not know it until I visited my M.D. for an annual physical exam. My medical doctor immediately placed me on medication which did manage my high blood pressure. However, it was always borderline. The misfortune of an automobile accident prompted me to visit a chiropractor for musculoskeletal relief.

Within several sessions my neck and back aches were better but seemingly my blood pressure reading was lowering as well. After about 17 visits (chiropractic adjustments) my blood pressure was the lowest it had been in years. The events triggered a dialogue with my medical doctor which eventually led to me getting off of the blood pressure medicine.

My experience led me to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. Although Chiropractic was extremely instrumental, it was exercise, diet, rest and nutrition that assisted in my overall health.

Chiropractic Education

I received my Bachelors of Science Degree from Hampton University. My Doctorate of Chiropractic Degree was received from Life University in Marietta, GA.

Sims Chiropractic Center Mission Statement

At Sims Chiropractic Center our mission is to provide alternative healthcare services to individuals seeking wellness care in part or due to injury, dis-ease(s) or preventative care. We aim to educate our patients on the five factors of health: diet, exercise, rest, positive mental attitude and wellness care so that they will incorporate these vital factors into their lifestyle habits.

More than eighteen (18) years of my experience in the health industry includes therapeutic recreation, physical therapy and Chiropractic. My patient population ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics. Our younger patients are usually no younger than five (5) years of age and learn healthy habits very early.

We see a variety of patients with health concerns. Many of them are neuromusculoskeletal in nature. My patients and conditions may range from your weekend warrior/gardener to your athlete who “Tweeked” their back or neck. Our patients even consist of your more chronic conditions such as degeneration (arthritis), injury or disc herniation that have been bothersome and inflamed for some time.

However, we remain consistent with our mission and encourage our patients to develop wellness lifestyle habits and routine maintenance chiropractic adjustments once they have gotten relief. Usually our patients resume their normal activities with full restoration of their spinal health.

Professional Associations and Hobbies

Dr. Sims continues to extend himself to the community by participating in various health screenings and educational sessions.

He is married with 2 daughters and a son. He resides in Calvert County, MD.

He is an active member of the American Chiropractic Association, Maryland Chiropractic Association, and American Black Chiropractors Association.

When he is not with his family or tending to patients he enjoys reading, martial arts, traveling and music.

Living The Chiropractic Lifestyle

Three days of my week are usually jump started with my exercise regimen. This usually includes jumping rope, running (2-3 miles) dependent upon the mood and using my “Total Gym” as well as martial arts. My work outs last 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Due to my history of hypertension I am cognizant of my food selection. I am not a vegan by any stretch of the imagination. However, my meat selection is limited to poultry and fish. Just recently, I have begun to re-introduce beef into my diet and am deciding if this will be added to the meat selection.

My wife, myself and my children receive chiropractic adjustments at least every other month and my children have been under care since birth.

I consider myself an excellent listener and hope I get the opportunity to meet you in person and discuss your specific health challenge.
